Language is the focus for this project and it could refer to many things from simple words to art to performance and sound.
However, for this project I figured I'd stick with 'books'...a bit cliché but the way I pictured my project; was that words would be flowing out of the books much like how words flow from our mouths. This would symbolize the action of communication and history. At first I thought of placing the books on the ground and covering them in paint and just sprinkle in the words and letters, but instead I decided to hang the books up.
Then I later thought why not make a "Word Tent" instead and this was how I pictured it'd look.
I would require the following materials:
- 4 wooden book boxes
- 2 3yd white bubble fabric sheets
- various assortments of letters, words, characters, and symbols
- wires
- strings
- string lights
- screws and braces
From there, I started to cut holes on one side of my wooden books, and there I then connection the books with braces. Connecting them by the edge of their frames and forming them into a diamond shape.
Next I thought of adding in the 2 3yd fabric and have them cross each other in a 'X', by draping them over the wooden books and have them weave in and out from the hole. I would then attach the letters and words to the fabrics and finally add in the string lights.
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get the string lights and will have to make due with the natural lighting in the art room.
Afterwards, I probably finish the project and use the 'Word Chandelier' as a personal decoration for myself.
